To Back the Blue, Back us Too
The BLM protests of the past few months have made it clear that we need transparent Police reform that protects our communities - but also makes the Police a participant at the table.
This means fully demilitarizing Police training by foreign governments and working to place officers who live in a community, within the precincts in their community.
This also means looking at best practices of what has worked in communities to make the police and community partners. We are proposing a return to Block watches - where local communities have liasons to the NYPD. This deescalates the fear that the community has and gets the police to truly be a part of the community.
Police reform will also require policy and legislation that balances Community needs - Oz wants to be your advocate for this in Albany.
Less Funds = More Illegal Guns
The removal of the Crime Units by DeBlasio has left a vacuum in keeping our communities safe. In just a few weeks, we’ve seen massive spikes in murders - taking us back towards 1980’s crime levels. Knee jerk reactions to try and appease BLM, cries for change, doesn’t make our communities more safe - and defunding the Police has resulted in a cutting of services, not better policing and better relations between cops and citizens.
Stopping gun crime will require work with communities, engagement of community leaders and work between the NYPD and community leaders to remove fear — working towards a future where the police and citizens are seen BOTH seen, as participants in the community.
We will also need engagement between the Community, the Police Unions and Police leadership to fix community policing and build for the future.
If I have the opportunity to become your State Senator - this will be my #1 priority.
